‘Do something instead of sending prayers’ – Student slams Donald Trump after 17 killed in Florida school massacre

A STUDENT who survived yesterday’s deadly mass shooting at a school in Florida has slammed President Donald Trump’s response to the atrocity.

Mr Trump had tweeted his “prayers and condolences” to the families of the 17 people killed after former pupil Nikolas de Jesus Cruz opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School with an AR-15 assault rifle.

The President added: “No child, teacher or anyone else should ever feel unsafe in an American school”.

But a student of the school, Sarah, quickly went viral after slamming his comments.

She added: “I don’t want your condolences you f***ing price [sic] of s***, my friends and teachers were shot. Multiple of my fellow classmates are dead.

"Do something instead of sending prayers. Prayers won’t fix this. But Gun control will prevent it from happening again.”

Sarah’s tweet has since received over 225,000 likes and 100,000 retweets, with the teenager for her “resilience” and “wisdom”.

One user replied: “Wise beyond your years, but still wish you spent today being a kid instead. No words to express how sorry I am”.

Another added: “I’m so sorry Sarah. You and your friends should have NEVER had to endure such a tragedy. We have failed you. We need to do more to protect you.”

But not everyone was receptive of Sarah’s calls for gun control in the wake of the massacre, thanks to the contentious debate surrounding the Second Amendment in the US.

One woman said: “Pretty sure the school was a gun free zone. That IS gun control. Criminals don’t obey laws. Laws won’t fix this. Addressing mental health will”.

While a second user even suggested arming school staff, writing: “I pray for you and am very sorry for your loss but that is not the answer he still could’ve gotten a black market gun easily, we need to arm our teachers so they can protect our students!”

Sarah had earlier tweeted: “Today has been the worst day of my life. I’ve been crying helplessly for hours. Thank you to everyone for your support. I’m going to try to sleep now.”

Cruz, 19, was arrested after heavily armed police swarmed the school on Wednesday afternoon.

A number of videos filmed by students captured the sounds of gunfire and screaming with at least one bloodiest body on the floor of a classroom.

Another student, who was in the class at the time of the shooting, said she “cannot unsee” the devastation caused by Cruz.

Morgan Williams tweeted: “I cannot stop hearing the sound of the gun as he walked down my hallway. I cannot unsee my classmates who were shot get carried out by police.

I cannot unsee the bodies on the floor. Please keep in mind the horror of what we’ve gone through today #prayfordouglas”.

She added: “Never in a million years did I think I would have EVER gone through this. There is NO reason why I should have had to run past deceased friends and classmates to get to safety because there isn’t a control on how easy it is to get a gun.”
