THE POGUES frontman Shane MacGowan will grace our television screens this Christmas – but not just for singing Fairytale of New York.
The Tipperary native will be the star of a new documentary commissioned by Sky Arts which will see his famously gapped smile filled in with a full set of dental implants.
MacGowan, 57, is well-known for his dental problems and even wore a set of dentures in 2009 after having his final two teeth removed.
But this did not last long, with the singer famously declaring they made him look like a “d***head”.
And apparently it was his long-time girlfriend Victoria Mary Clarke who eventually convinced him to do it by having her own teeth done.
“Victoria had hers done last year and I thought they were great, so I decided to go with the same dentist, Darragh,” he told The Irish Sun.
“It was a bit swollen for the first few days but I’m feeling good now. I’m getting used to them now.”
Actual footage from the operation to install the dental implants will be aired and the journey to a toothier smile will be broken up on our screens with interviews from his famous friends.
Actor Johnny Depp and singer Pete Doherty are two of the names rumoured to be speaking about MacGowan in the documentary.
And ahead of the documentary airing on an undisclosed date next month, MacGowan showed his charitable side.
A portion of the royalties he will take in from press photos taken of him before the operation will go to Irish homeless charity Focus Ireland.
