Skeletal remains found next to old railway line in Cork

HUMAN REMAINS have been discovered near an old railway line in Co. Cork.

Gardaí have asked for help from the State Pathologist following the find.

The grizzly discovery was made by a work crew shortly before 5pm on Tuesday along the old Midleton-Youghal railway line, which has been closed since 1987.

It's currently being converted into a walking route.

It's understood that a number of bones and the remnants of a human skull were found at the scene, which was in an area of dense undergrowth next to the line.

All work has been suspended while investigations take place.

It's believed that the remains have been there for a long time - at least 10 years - but nothing will be confirmed until a proper forensic analysis can take place.

Should the remains be confirmed as human, gardaí will review all missing person case files in the area.
