A MAN has been arrested after a six-week-old baby was found seriously injured in a house in County Meath.
Gardaí have arrested a man in his twenties after a six week old baby girl was found in a serious condition after an incident in a house in Ashbourne, County Meath, according to RTÉ.
Gardaí were called to a house in the vicinity at approximately 7am yesterday morning, Monday 11th November, where they arrested the man on suspicion of assault.
The unidentified man is currently being held for questioning at Ashbourne Garda Station.
The baby girl is being treated for serious injuries at CHI, Temple Street Children's University Hospital.
Her condition is believed to be serious but not life threatening.
A woman, also aged in her 20s, is said to have received minor injuries during the assault.
Ashbourne is a town on the border between Counties Meath and Dublin, approximately 23 kilometres from Dublin city centre.
A garda spokesperson released a statement which says:
"Gardaí are investigating an assault that took place in Ashbourne, Co. Meath at approximately 7:00am on the 11th November 2019.
"A male, 20s, was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and is currently being detained in Ashbourne Garda Station."
Investigations are ongoing, and no other information is available at this time.
