SIX men, all from Algeria, have been arrested after an Irishwoman was allegedly gang raped at a hostel in Prague.
Czech media are reporting that the victim, an Irish tourist, was attacked in the city's famous old town on Easter Sunday.
Czech police spokesman Jan Danek said the woman met one of the attackers that evening and agreed to go back to his room.
It is there that the woman alleges the man and five of his friends raped her.
Mr Danek said six men had been arrested and placed in custody on suspicion of rape, describing them as young Algerians born between 1994 and 1998.
“On Monday at 7am the woman called the police and reported to them that she was raped in a hostel at Naprstkova Street,” Mr Danek told the Irish Times.
“The police assault team then came to the place and arrested all the men.”
Czech media obtained footage showing armed officers in masks and helmets breaking down a door in the hostel – arresting several men lying face-down on the floor before dragging them away.
The suspects appeared before a Prague court on Thursday. All six deny the charges against them.
The Irish complainant, who has not been named, told the court that she feared for her life during the ordeal.
