POLICE have released shocking images of a 90-year-old woman who was severely beaten as she lay in her own bed.
Great-grandmother Iris ‘Anne’ Warner was left in a critical condition after the incident, which took place some time between midday on Saturday, June 2 and midday on Monday, June 4.
While she has now recovered consciousness she remains in a serious condition in hospital with bruising over her face and down her body.
'Sickened'
Her son Jeffrey Warner, 60, who discovered his mother on Monday afternoon, has decided to release photos of his mother in the hope it will prompt the public to come forward with information that will help police catch her attacker.
He said: “We are shocked and appalled at the violence used against our mother Iris, better known as Anne to her friends and family – a defenceless 90-year-old woman. It has left us feeling stunned and sickened.
“We appeal for anyone with information that could assist police in their investigation to come forward. The person responsible must be brought to justice."
The pensioner was attacked in her home in Brampton Road, Brent, London NW9 where she has lived for decades.
Despite regaining consciousness, she has so far been unable to provide a definitive account of events or a detailed description of her assailant.
However she told officers she does remember being woken up in bed by a man standing over her who she believes struck her in the face multiple times with some kind of instrument.
Her bedroom was left in a messy manner indicating the man had conducted a hurried search for items but it has not yet been established if anything was stolen.
Detective Inspector Saj Hussain, from Brent CID, said such attacks were rare but appealed for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area between Saturday and Monday to come forward.
'Horrific'
“This was a horrific attack carried out on a very vulnerable elderly woman in her own home, and must have been absolutely terrifying for Iris,” he said.
“She has various medical complications on top of the injuries sustained in the assault that are likely to keep her in hospital for a very long time.”
