GARDAI HAVE stood down their search for a missing 50-year-old woman from Wexford after her body was discovered almost a week on from her disappearance.
Deirdre Redmond from Gorey was last seen on Saturday, July 11.
A Garda search began soon after with her family said to be extremely concerned for her wellbeing at the time of her disappearance.
Tragically, that search has now ceased following confirmation from the Coast Guard that a body had been found.
A garda spokesperson said: "Following the discovery of a body of a woman by the Coast Guard near Courtown, Co Wexford on 17/7/2020, the missing person appeal for Deirdre Redmond has now been stood down.
"No further action is required."
While garda sources did not directly confirmed that the body was that of Mrs Redmond, the official Find Deirdre Facebook made the announcement.
"Confirmed Deirdre has been found,” an update said.
“Thank you everybody for their help, no more searches."
A tribute was also posted to the Gorey Family Resource Centre.
"It is with great sadness that we confirm Deirdre Redmond has been found. May she rest in peace,” it reads.
"Our thoughts now are with Deirdre's husband Pat, her sons Anthony and Jason and her daughter Niamh and family and friends.
