RYANAIR has become the first airline in history to fly more than 10million passengers in a month.
During July, traffic rose by 11 per cent to a record 10.14million passengers — or more than 300,000 passengers every day.
The load factor — how many seats were occupied on each plane — also rose four per cent to 95 per cent.
Kenny Jacobs, spokesman for Ryanair, said: “This is the first time ever that any airline has carried over 10million international customers in one calendar month. For example we carried more customers in one month, 10.14m in July, than Aer Lingus carried in a whole year, 9.77m in 2014."
He said that the success was due to lower fares, improved service and the budget airline's ‘Always Getting Better’ programme.
Mr Jacobs added that Ryanair customers could look forward to further improvements in service in the autumn.
These will include new cabin interiors, new crew uniforms, improved inflight menus, reduced fees, a new app and new website.
The airline, the sixth largest carrier in the world, and the largest outside the US or China, intends to continue expanding its routes.
It could also be set for a return to Belfast City Airport.
The budget carrier is one of a number of airlines interested in the 10 daily slots between London Gatwick and Belfast, which will become available as part of Willie Walsh’s IAG takeover of Aer Lingus.
