Ryanair flight to Manchester evacuated after passengers heard discussing a bomb in airport toilet

A RYANAIR flight was evacuated in Norway yesterday evening after two passengers were heard arguing about a bomb in the toilets of the airport.

Passengers who overheard the conversation alerted the crew as they boarded the flight, which was planned to depart from Rygge airport near the Norwegian capital, Oslo at 18:55 local time (15:55 GMT).

The Norwegian police were called and ordered passengers to disembark while they carried out a thorough search of the plane.

Two men, one British and the other Sri Lankan, were detained by police but were later released.

Nothing suspicious was found on the plane and Ryanair provided a replacement flight for passengers which departed for Manchester a few hours later.

A Ryanair spokesman told the BBC the incident was a "hoax security alert."

Norwegian authorities confirmed on Twitter that the situation had been a "misunderstanding" and that the situation was now back to normal.

The incident came just hours after a suspicious item discovered at Old Trafford caused Manchester United's final Premier League game against Bournemouth AFC to be postponed.

It later transpired that the item in question was a fake bomb that had been accidentally left by a private security company during a training exercise at the ground.

The match has been rearranged for Tuesday evening, with kick-off at 20:00
