THOUSANDS of Ryanair passengers have had their flights cancelled on Tuesday due to a strike by air-traffic controllers in France.
The low-cost airline said it had been forced to ground 110 flights with further cancellations and delays likely due to the national walkout by French ATC unions.
More than 20,000 passengers flying to and from France will be affected by Tuesday’s cancellations, according to travel expert Simon Calder.
Ryanair advised passengers travelling today to check the status of their flight on its website before travelling to their airport, while British Airways and easyJet warned that industrial action could lead to disruption.
Chief marketing officer of Ryanair, Kenny Jacobs, said: “Enough is enough. If the French government is serious about changing France, they should start by tackling these air traffic control unions.
“Together with the European Commission, France should take immediate action to prevent thousands of European consumers from having their travel plans disrupted by a tiny group of ATC unions going on strike once again.
“They cannot stand idly by as more disruption and travel misery is inflicted upon Europe’s consumers and airlines.”

“2016 was a record year for ATC strikes and French air traffic control unions have announced further strike action this week.”
He added: “As a result, we regret we’ve been forced to cancel 110 flights on Tuesday.”
EasyJet said they were doing “everything possible” to minimise the effect of the strike on their own customers.
An easyJet spokesperson said: “Like all airlines, our flights to and from French airports, as well as those flying in French airspace, could be affected.
“We are doing everything possible to minimise the impact of the strike on our customers, and we advise that you allow plenty of extra time to get to the airport and consider alternative transport options where possible, as public transport services may be affected by the strike.”
British Airways has already cancelled 12 flights and have said: “Other short-haul flights may also experience some disruption, given how many flights from numerous European airlines would normally use French airspace each day.”
In a travel update on its website, the Foreign Office advised: “Disruption and delays to transport services are expected.
“If you’re travelling to Calais and Dunkirk ports or the Channel Tunnel, you should allow extra time for your journey and check your chosen carrier’s website before you set off.”
