Ryanair cabin crew announce 24-hour European strike to take place this month

RYANAIR cabin crew have confirmed that they will hold a 24-hour strike across much of Europe later this month.

The announcement came earlier today that cabin crews in Portugal, Italy, Spain and Belgium will stage a 24-hour strike on 25 July and and again in Portugal, Spain and Belgium on 26 July.

The news comes just a day after almost 100 of the airline’s Dublin-based pilots voted in favour of a 24-hour strike on Thursday July 12, following a dispute over management’s approach to transferring pilots between its European and African bases.

Unions said further action may follow if the Irish airline does not make concessions on some employment terms.

On Wednesday the unions issued a list of changes they wanted to their terms and conditions.

They include a request to be paid into bank accounts in their own countries, rather than in the Republic of Ireland.

Only Irish routes will face cancellations, with Ryanair stating: “Since Ireland accounts for less than 7 per cent of Ryanair flights, we expect that 93 per cent of our customers will be unaffected by any strike.”
