The late footballer died in March 2017.
Brandywell Stadium is to be named after 27-year-old Ryan McBride, who died suddenly last year.
The change of name was motivated by a consultation on the proposal, which according to RTÉ started in April.
The public consultation had 6,549 valid responses to change the name in his memory.
71% of people voted for renaming the stadium in honour of McBride.
