On the run: Irish brothers with ‘history of violence’ fail to return to prison after funeral

THE PSNI are hunting two violent brothers who failed to return prison after being allowed to attend a funeral.

Charles Valliday, 45, and James Valliday, 51, were due to return to Maghaberry Prison on Thursday after being given compassionate bail to attend a relative’s funeral.

The pair, who are awaiting trial for ‘serious offences’, were last seen on Thursday at 10am in the vicinity of St Jude’s Chapel in West Belfast, where the funeral took place.

The PSNI has now urged the brothers to hand themselves in and cautioned the public not to approach them.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Charles and James Valliday, who are awaiting trial for serious offences, were last seen at 10am yesterday in the area of St Jude’s Chapel on the Falls Road where they attended a relative’s funeral.

“They have a history of violence and I would urge the public not to approach them but to contact police immediately.

“I would ask Charles and James to hand themselves in to the authorities without any further delay and ask anyone who knows of their current whereabouts or who has any information to contact police on 999.”

Charles Valliday is 5ft 9in tall, of stocky build, with short, brown hair, protruding ears and green eyes.

He has a tattoo of a bulldog, panther and snake on his left arm and a fish tattoo on his right arm.

James Valliday is 5ft 9in tall, of medium build, with short, dark brown hair and blue eyes.

He has a tattoo of a scroll on his left arm saying ‘Mum and Dad’.
