RTÉ News anchor announces retirement after more than 30 years

UNA O'HAGAN has announced she is to leave the state broadcaster after 34 years of service.

O'Hagan follows the paths of former co-anchors Aengus MacGrianna and Bryan Dobson in her wishes to leave RTÉ News.

The TV anchor has decided to leave RTÉ after more than 30 years presenting the nation's news to pursue other creative outlets, such as writing a book with her husband Colm Keane.

According to Independent, O'Hagan said she felt it was her time to leave, preferring to leave on a high rather than a low:

She said: "The time is right...I guess I felt that I am 55, I have another few years working so I thought it is now or never. I can not leave the cocoon where I have really enjoyed myself and have had a successful career or I can go out and try something new."

She stated that the decision to leave RTÉ was "gradual" and something she had been thinking of over the last few years working as a newsreader.

O'Hagan's final broadcast will be screened on February 25th - so make sure to tune in.
