PRESIDENT of Ireland Michael D. Higgins has paid a moving tribute to Irish blues/rock guitarist Rory Gallagher on the 20th anniversary of his death.
While today is a day of celebration, I have to say this also, a poignant day for some, a poignant day for all of us in Ireland's cultural calendar, as we mark the 20th anniversary of the death of Rory Gallagher. While Rory's death was premature, his legacy is a profound one, one acknowledged in so many cities around the World. His great talent continues to inspire and influence a new generation of guitarists and he remains one of the most highly regarded Irish musicians of all time. There can be no doubt, that Rory's role in the story of Irish blues and rock music is immeasurable and that his memory lives on. And will live on through both his own unique talent and the talent of those who's work continues to pay homage to Rory Gallagher's great genius."
