A NEW report has revealed which Irish counties have the best and worst uptake of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Overall, Ireland has the second-best vaccine uptake in Europe, only bettered by Malta, and while the vast majority of people to have been offered their jabs have accepted them, there are a few counties lagging behind the others.
Co. Monaghan has Ireland's lowest Covid-19 vaccine uptake, at just 81.9%.
Monaghan also has by some distance the highest 14-day incidence rate in the country, with 1,547.6 Covid-19 cases per 100,000, which could well be a reflection of the low vaccine uptake.
Co. Donegal has the country's second-lowest vaccine uptake (83.5%), as well as the country's second-highest incidence rate (1,159 per 100,000), to further indicate the effectiveness of the vaccines.
At the top of the charts are counties Waterford and Carlow, with 98.5% and 97.7% vaccine uptake rates respectively, while counties Wexford and Tipperary both score above 95%.
The national county average sits at 91.86%, while Co. Dublin has a rate of 87.3% - Ireland's fourth-lowest.
Border counties tend to have lower vaccine uptake rates than the rest of the nation, with Louth, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal all with rates of under 90%.
The county currently with the lowest 14-day incidence rate is Clare, with 252.5 per 100,000.
