RECAPTURED prisoner Derek Brockwell could be sent back to Britain to finish his sentence, it has been revealed.
According to media reports Brockwell could be sent back to Britain, where he had been handed down 22 life sentences - the equivalent of 13 years in jail - for armed robbery in 2000.
The Glasgow native made headlines last week when he escaped from Tallaght Hospital, stabbing two prison officers in the process.
He had been taken to Tallaght from Portlaoise Prison, where he had been incarcerated for armed robbery. He had previously been serving a prison sentence in Lancashire, from where he also escaped.
Brockwell was recaptured in the North of Ireland last week in a pub in the city centre, and is currently receiving medical treatment for self-inflicted stab wounds.
A PSNI spokesperson said that while no decision has been formally made on his extradition, he is under close watch in Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital.
“He is still under care and receiving medical treatment so no decision will formally be made until he is finished treatment. However, he is under arrest in hospital and is being watched.”
A decision on Brockwell’s extradition and prison sentence is expected to be made when he makes his recovery.
