SINN FÉIN politician Gerry Adams was reportedly denied entry to the White House for the annual St. Patrick's Day event.
In March 2016, Gerry Adams was invited to attend a ceremony at Obama's White House along with fellow politicians Mary Lou McDonald and the late Martin McGuinness, however, upon arrival, Adams was told there was a security problem that had to be resolved.
Adams waited to be allowed entry to the event however after 90 minutes, it is believed the politician left, confused and angry at the mix up. According to Belfast Telegraph, the politician accused security and the US government in treating the Sinn Féin with lesser treatment than to other parties present on the day.
However, documents released and seen reveal that the reason for Adam's denied entry is because American security officials confused the Sinn Féin politician's name with a nickname of another guest.
Sinn Féin have commented on the matter saying the mishap was 'regrettable' but they received a different explanation on the day. Officials at both the White House and members of the security running the event have also apologised for any inconvenience caused.
