POLICE in Belfast have ended their inquiry into a video allegedly showing a ‘dog hanging’.
The owner meanwhile has taken to social media to express his distress at finding out about the allegations.
On Sunday night, the PSNI in North Belfast appealed for witnesses to come forward after the video was posted to social media earlier in the evening.
However the dog's owner contacted police today and they have concluded no abuse took place.
“We have visited the dog owner this morning along with colleagues from animal welfare from Belfast City Council,” said a spokesman.
“We can confirm that the dog is in good health and no abuse had taken place.
“Rather the dog was being trained and was playing with a toy.
“We are satisfied that no crime has taken place and the animal is well looked after.”
The owner, who confirmed he was training the dog for a ‘spring pole’ strength competition, described the dog as his ‘best friend’.
“I look after my dog better than I look after me, he is spoilt rotten, he is obedient, fit and I put a lot of time and effort into my dog,” he said.
He also claimed that two months ago, he came home to find that someone had posted tablets through his letter box intended for the dog.
