President Higgins to make historic visit to Warrington

PRESIDENT Michael D Higgins will meet the parents of a young Warrington IRA bombing victim when he makes a historic visit to the town this week.

The meeting with Colin and Wendy Parry will take place at the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace Centre in Warrington on Wednesday, July 22.

The centre was founded by the Parrys after their 12-year-old son Tim was tragically killed alongside Jonathan Ball, 3, as a direct result of the IRA’s bombing of Warrington in March 1993.

The President will be joined by his wife Sabina on his first official visit to Warrington and his second to Liverpool, which he visited in November 2012.

Later on in the day, the President will be awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws by the University of Liverpool, where he will also deliver a speech at a graduation ceremony in the University’s Philharmonic Hall.

The visit will be rounded off with a celebratory dinner for honorary graduates, which will also be attended by local dignitaries and members of Liverpool’s Irish community.
