THE MOST popular names for Irish babies in 2017 have been revealed.
The list of baby boy and baby girl names were revealed by the Department of Foreign Affairs this afternoon.
The list is made up of the top most popular names submitted in applications for Irish passports for infants in 2017.
For boys, the most popular names were Jack, James, Conor, Daniel and Adam.
The most popular names for infant girls in Ireland were Emily, Emma, Aoife, Grace and Sophie.
The list of names came as the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney announced Ireland issued a record number of passports in 2017.
Commenting on the record-breaking year, the Tánaiste said:“This is the highest number of Irish passports ever issued in one year.
"It represents an increase of over six per cent compared to 2016 (itself a record-breaking year), and an increase of over 15 per cent since 2015.
"The number of applicants from Northern Ireland and Great Britain has continued to rise.
"Overall, almost 20 per cent of the total number of applications received by the Passport Service this year were from Irish citizens in Northern Ireland or Great Britain.”
