AS REPORTED yesterday, President Michael D. Higgins will become the first Irish President to make an official state visit to Britain after accepting an invitation from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The visit will take place over April 8-10 - three years on from the Queen's historic visit to Ireland.
Taoiseach End Kenny and Ireland's political parties have welcomed the news and see it as beneficial to Ireland's economy and to relations between Ireland and Britain.
