Police Scotland issue updated appeal following unexplained death of Robert 'Rab' Kennedy

POLICE in Fife are looking to trace a passer-by who helped a man in the street a month before he died.

Sixty-three year old Robert Kennedy, known by his nickname 'Rab' who was well known in Dunfermline and was a roadie for the rock band band Nazareth.

He was found unconscious at his home on Halbeath Road on Wednesday 1st June and later died at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.
A month prior to his death the music lover had been spotted with unexplained facial injuries after leaving a gig at popular Irish bar and gig venue PJ Molloy’s.

Following an appeal for public information, new information came to light, giving the police a new lead.

The officer leading the investigation, Detective Inspector John Anderson of Dunfermline CID said:

“Following our earlier appeals for information, we have had an excellent response from members of the public who have provided us with a clear picture of Robert’s movements over the course of the weekend prior to his death and up until he was last seen on the morning of Sunday 29th May.

“This information has allowed us to provide Robert’s family with a very detailed account of his last movements and some comfort surrounding the circumstances of his death. We have uncovered no evidence to suggest there are any suspicious circumstances.

“During the early stages of our enquiries we learned that Robert was seen with injuries to his face after he had been to the Leroy Day charity music event at PJ Molloy’s on Sunday 1st May. Since our last appeal we have now established that between 10pm and 11pm that evening, Robert was taken home by taxi from Canmore Street in Dunfermline, near to the junction of New Row and the Alhambra Theatre.

“At that time he was helped to his feet and into the taxi by a man aged 50 – 60 years with white hair, and it was apparent that he had suffered injuries to his face. I would appeal for that man who helped Robert to contact the police if he recognises himself from this description.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dunfermline CID on 01786 289 070.
