Police launch manhunt for 'violent' Irish prisoner, 27, after he absconded from UK jail

POLICE in the UK have launched a major manhunt for a "violent" Irish prisoner after he absconded from jail.

Michael Doherty, 27, fled HMP Kirkham in Lancashire, northwest England on Saturday (June 29).

Doherty, formerly of an address in the Cheshire area, was jailed at Chester Crown Court last November for offences related to burglary and dangerous driving.

He is described as white, 6ft 2in tall, of medium build, with brown eyes and dark wavy hair.

The fugitive has an Irish accent and a tattoo of the name "Mary" on his left arm.

He has links to the Manchester, Staffordshire, Leicestershire, Lancashire, Cheshire and Essex areas.

Doherty may be violent and members of the public have been warned not to approach him but instead to contact police immediately if they see him.
