Pogues star Shane MacGowan badly injured after falling and breaking knee

SHANE MACGOWAN has broken his knee after falling in his home and is now unable to leave his bed.

The Pogues frontman has reportedly been badly affected by the injury, and ate yesterday "for the first time in days".

"He's broken his knee so he's in a cast and can't get out of bed," his wife Victoria Mary Clarke told the Irish Mirror.

"He tore a ligament and he was in a brace and just as the brace came off he fell and he broke the knee

"He's lost his appetite. He ate for the first time in a day or two [yesterday]."

The 65-year-old has been confined to a wheelchair since 2015 after breaking his pelvis, and past troubles with alcohol appear to have caught up with him, but his wife insists that the Fairytale Of New York icon has remained as upbeat about everything as he can.

"He was literally getting from the chair to the bed and he fell, so you know he's usually pretty good humoured," Victoria added.

"Some days are better than others. He doesn't complain about being in pain, but it can't be hard."

"Shane doesn't have any sort of disease but he broke his pelvis a few years ago and since then he's had trouble walking.

"I do get help with the caring but he likes it when we can eat together and when I'm there."

She went on to say that despite his precariousness, Shane is "keen to get back on the road again and to record music."

Get well soon, Shane
