Funeral plans for Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan as family priest expresses ‘deepest sympathies’

PLANS for the funeral of Irish singer Dolores O' Riordan are underway but final details for her funeral mass are yet to be finalised.

A statement released by the Catholic Communications Office said that: "details concerning the Funeral Mass for the late Dolores O’ Riordan have not as yet been finalised.”

However, it is believed her funeral will take place in Limerick.

“When information on the funeral liturgy becomes available, it will be circulated to media by the Catholic Communications Office”, the statement said.

It has been suggested the Cranberries singer will be buried next to her father, who died in 2011. He is buried in Ballybricken, Co. Limerick.

Father James Walton, priest for the parish of Ballybricken told the Limerick Leader that he wished to “extend my deepest sympathies to the family”.

"The suddenness of her death has been a shock." he said.

"I met Dolores two or three times when she was home visiting family. She was a lovely lady.

"Her family are still waiting for more details to come from London about her death.

"The plan is for her to be buried here at home. When that will be will depend upon when her body is released."

The former Cranberries singer died suddenly at the London Hilton Hotel on Park Lane on Monday, at the age of 46.

The Metropolitan Police have since confirmed that they're not treating the death as suspicious and that the case has now been submitted to the coroner.

O’ Riordan was in London for a recording session when she passed away.

Friends and peers have been paying tribute since Monday, while a book of condolence was opened in Limerick yesterday.

Among those paying tribute was Dolores' niece Elaine O' Riordan.
