PIERS MORGAN has hit out at Donald Trump after the president make accusations of voter fraud just hours after polls closed across the country.
At a press briefing this morning, Trump branded the election "a fraud on the American public" and suggested that the mail-in ballots couldn't be trusted.
He went on to claim victory in the election and hinted that postal votes that haven't been officially recorded yet shouldn't be counted.
Morgan, who has been critical of Trump's presidency in recent months, particularly since the outbreak of the Covid-19 crisis, called the Republican leader "an absolute disgrace," describing his words as "an unprecedented assault on American democracy."
"This is unbelievable. Trump has claimed victory, branded the election a 'major fraud on the American public' & demanded no more votes be counted," Morgan tweeted.
"President Trump has just launched an unprecedented assault on American democracy, demanding millions of Americans are denied their votes, & it’s an absolute disgrace," he added.

Trump went on to say he would be taking the matter to the Supreme Court should he lose the election.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain today, Morgan criticised UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab for failing to "call out" Mr Trump over the his words, claiming he was "too scared" to slate the president.
"What's the matter with you, Raab?" Morgan asked. "Spit it out man. You're the Foreign Secretary. Call it for what it is. Even top Republicans are calling out Donald Trump for this.
"Where are your balls? Call it out. Tell him it's wrong.
"Demand that every vote gets counted. That's the bedrock of any democracy, isn't it?"
