Pierce Brosnan reveals he tragically lost two lifelong friends to coronavirus

PIERCE BROSNAN has revealed he has lost two close friends to coronavirus.

Speaking in the latest issue of Parade magazine, the Irish actor spoke frankly about the ongoing “war” against Covid-19, which he described as an "awful threat to life looming."

The 67-year-old told the magazine: "I lost two friends to COVID-19. They were friends of 45 years, and I am godfather to his son."

"No matter where you are and how beautiful it may be, you still have this awful threat to life looming," he said.

The James Bond star continued, "You have to keep pushing the rock uphill, and you have to keep involved in life. We are at war. People are dying.”

Brosnan said that despite the devastation left in the wake of the virus, he remained hopeful that society would come through the pandemic with a newfound appreciation for Earth.

"Hopefully after all this, there will be more kindness and more awareness of the fragility of our planet."

The Drogheda-born star said he was on location in England, filming for his latest project, Disney’s Cinderella, when he became aware of the outbreak.

But despite the UK’s subsequent lockdown measures, he was still able to get back to his family and home on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

"I was on a plane the next day. I was told I might not get out, and I wanted to be with my family," he said.

Brosnan has been isolating with his wife Keely Shaye Smith and their two sons, Dylan, 23, and Paris, 19, on the Hawaiian island ever since.

Both of his sons were studying at University when the pandemic began but soon returned home, with their girlfriends, and plan on staying there until the worst of the virus passes.

Pierce and his wife Keely celebrated their wedding anniversary in lockdown.

The pair married on April 10, 2001 at the picturesque Ballintubber Abbey in County Mayo, Ireland, on

In a tribute posted to Instagram on heir anniversary, Brosnan wrote: "My darling angel heart Keely, thank you for bringing such love and beauty into my life, for making these past twenty six years the greatest joy of my life...Happy anniversary my brown eyed girl.”
