THE annual London Irish Rugby Academy fundraising golf day took place recently at Ealing golf club in West London.

After a full Irish breakfast, around 150 golfers took to the fairways and enjoyed a great day's golf, supplemented by the unique and now traditional on-course Italian restaurant at the 14th hole and strategically placed Guinness and lager bars.

The day was rounded off with a presentation evening and auction, followed by Irish traditional music. Every year, the James Naughton Memorial Trophy is presented to the London Irish Academy Player of the year. This year it was awarded to Tom Fowlie who has represented the London Irish 1st team and England U20s. James Naughton was a London Irish player who passed away in 2004 aged 17.

The event, the most successful in its twelve year history, raises funds which support the London Irish Academy and enables them to invest in the London Irish stars of the future. The day was organised by London Irish President Mick Crossan and his hardworking team of helpers, who have always been able to rely on the generous support of many Irish businesses based in London and the South East. Mick Crossan, whose family hail from Cavan, is Chairman of Powerday, the recycling and waste management company.
