Person dies in two-vehicle collision close to popular tourist spot, the Dark Hedges

ONE person has died following a series road traffic collision in Co. Antrim, near to a Game of Thrones filming location popular with tourists.

The two-vehicle collision took place at around 7.10pm on Tuesday on the Gracehill Road near Armoy, close to the Dark Hedges site.

The Belfast Telegraph reports the deceased may have been visiting the area.

UUP Councillor Darryl Wilson said increased tourist traffic in recent years had created an ‘accident black spot’.

“Deeply saddened to learn that one person has died following a serious two-vehicle collision on the Gracehill Road near Armoy this evening,” he said.

“This stretch of road has been an accident black spot over recent years with increased traffic due to local tourist attractions.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to all impacted by this awful tragedy.”

In a statement, the PSNI said: “Gracehill Road, Armoy is closed due to a serious two-vehicle road traffic collision. Motorists are asked to seek other routes.

“Diversions at Ballykenver Road/Bregagh Road junction and Gracehill Road/Clontyfinnian Road junction. Believed roads will be closed for some time.”
