Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man was stabbed and robbed in Ireland.
A man in his 70s was stabbed in Co. Limerick by someone who was trying to steal his wallet.
The elderly man was walking along Hunts Lane in the city centre when he was stabbed and robbed.
According to The Irish Mirror, the attack occurred on February 22.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said they are appealing for information.
"Last Thursday evening at half past eight, a gentleman in his 70s was walking along Hunts Lane which is off Dominic Street.
Gardaí said the man sustained grave injuries in the attack.
"He was grabbed suddenly from behind and his wallet was stolen from him. The poor man left the area but he subsequently discovered that he had been stabbed."
Witnesses are being asked to come forward with any information related to the incident.
"Gardaí at Roxboro are investigating and are appealing for anybody who was in the Hunts Lane/Dominic Street area, last Thursday the 22nd of February, between around 8.20 to 8.40 in the evening."
This story was ammended on February 27, 2018 to reflect the fact that the victim is alive but injured.
