A MAN has tragically died in hospital following a fire at an apartment in Dublin city centre on New Year's Day.
The blaze occurred at an apartment block on Benburb Street in Dublin 7 shortly before 9pm last night.
The man, aged in his early 60s, was rescued from the building by Dublin Fire Brigade teams before paramedics attempted to save his life.
However, he was later pronounced dead after being rushed to the Mater Hospital by ambulance.
The fire was quickly extinguished and no one else was injured in the incident.
Our thoughts are with the man's family, friends and neighbours at this difficult time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
