Patrick Dempsey gushes about ‘amazing’ Ireland after arriving for filming on new Disney movie

GRAY’S ANATOMY star Patrick Dempsey has taken to social media to express his delight at touching down in Ireland ahead of filming on a new Disney movie.

The 55-year-old actor, who is familiar to millions for playing Doctor Derek ‘McDreamy’ on the hit US medical drama, is over in Ireland to film Disenchanted, the long-awaited sequel to the 2007 hit Enchanted, which also starred Amy Adams.

Oscar-nominee Adams is also over in Ireland, with filming on the movie sequel due to take place in the picturesque village of Enniskerry in Co Wicklow.

Adams is no stranger to Ireland having previously visited the country while filming the romantic comedy Leap Year alongside Matthew Goode and Adam Scott.

Taking to Instagram, Adams confirmed she had arrived and was raring to get going.

"Hi everybody. I am in Ireland where I am getting ready to start filming on the sequel to Enchanted, which I am very excited about." she said.

Dempsey went one step further though, with a series of videos and pictures praising the beautiful local scenery and peaceful tranquility of the Irish countryside.

In one Instagram story, he can be seen strolling down a country lane with the caption reading: “This place is incredible."

He also posted a further two pictures of the local scenery with one simply captioned: “Ireland!”

Filming on Disenchanted is due to begin shortly with a giant set constructed in Enniskerry.

Disney, meanwhile, has put out a casting call requesting trained dancers of any age to get involved.

Enchanted starred Adams as Giselle,  a Disney-eseque princess who ends up as something of a fish-out-of-water after being transported from the comfort of her animated fairytale kingdom of Andalasia to the rough and tumble of real-life New York.

Fortunately, she ends up being taken under the wing of Robert (Dempsey), who soon finds himself developing romantic feelings for his new charge.

Hilarity and hijinks ensue with the pair - SPOILER ALERT - ultimately living happily ever after...or so we thought.

Now, some 14 years on, fans are getting a sequel few could have ever predicted would happen following years of delays.

Not only that, but both Adams and Dempsey are returning to reprise their roles along with co-stars James Marsden and Idina Menzel.

The plot of Disenchanted sees as increasingly bored Giselle accidentally trigger the same chain reaction of events that saw the real world blend with Andalasia.

Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Jayma Mays have also signed on to star in Disenchanted which will premiere on Disney’s new streaming service Disney+.
