Parts of Ireland to bask in 17° sunshine on St Patrick's Day

THERE MAY not be parades or beer gardens to go to, but Ireland will enjoy warm sunshine this St Patrick's Day.

After what seems like weeks of wind, rain, thunder and lightning, hailstones and even snow, Ireland is finally set for better weather in time for St Patrick's Day.

Ireland's national meteorological service Met Eireann have predicted a break in the bleak weather starting from today, with bright patches breaking through the clouds and drizzle and temperatures reaching highs of 10 to 14 degrees.

There will be some outbreaks of rain tonight, particularly in northwestern counties, but most areas will remain dry, and tomorrow should bring a dry and mostly sunny day nationwide with temperatures reaching 15 degrees in some areas.

On Wednesday-- St Patrick's Day-- initial frost and fog will clear in the morning, leaving Ireland with a dry and mostly sunny day for people to celebrate the national holiday.

Despite the chance of some cloud developing in Connacht and north Ulster later in the day, south Munster and south Leinster are expected to bask in temperatures ranging up to 17 degrees.

While those on the north coast will have a decidedly cooler day, with temperatures between 10 or 11 degrees, there will still be sunshine and dry weather across the country.

So while we may not be able to celebrate with thousands on the streets or in pubs, it seems very likely that we'll be able to sit out in the sun and have a celebration with those in our bubble. Sláinte!
