LAST year it was ladies first when Shelagh O’Connor became the first woman to be named Kerry Person of the Year by the London Kerry Association.
Now nominations for the 2014 accolade have opened as the search begins to find the most inspirational folk from the Kingdom.
A deadline of July 23 has been set for nominations - either by email, Facebook, Twitter or post - for people who have excelled in supporting of their local Irish community in the capital.
“We have had a long line of highly influential and successful Kerry People of the Year,” said Danny Sullivan, Chairman of the Kerry Association London.
“It is important to note that we are not just looking for prosperous business people but are looking for those that have made a difference to their community. This can be through their contribution to a charity or as an important volunteer in a community based organisation. This title is accessible to anyone that has made a difference to society and of course has close ties with Co. Kerry”.
The winner will to be announced in early August and presented with the Denis Reidy Memorial Shield at the annual Kerry dinner dance at the Crown Moran Hotel on October 24.
Last year’s winner Shelagh O’Connor, a director of the New Horizon Youth Project in London’s Kings Cross, said: “It was a real honour to be chosen as Kerry person of the year in 2013 and even more so to be the first Kerry woman chosen.
"Having over 20 of my family over from Ireland in October for the Awards started off the year in a truly positive note and that has continued ever since.”
She added: “I am delighted to have been involved in the Association’s charitable work over the past year and the recent Darkness into Light walk in Cricklewood reflects some of the tremendous work the Kerry Association achieves on behalf of the community in London.”
