A medical emergency caused a flight to be diverted last night.
An 81-year-old man has passed away after falling ill shortly after his flight took off from Tenerife last night.
The Newcastle bound Jet2 flight was diverted to Cork airport when the man became distressed and his condition began to deteriorate, within the first hour of the flight.
When the aircraft landed in Cork, the man was rushed to the terminal and immediately received treatment from medical staff.
Cork airport's Twitter account provided updates on the incident.

All passengers on the flight were brought to the departure hall, where they waited until a replacement flight arrived.
The man was pronounced dead shortly after landing in Cork airport, despite the efforts of medics.
A replacement flight for the remaining passengers was provided at 10.30pm, which brought them to their destination.
Our sympathies are with the spouse and family of the gentleman who passed away en route from Tenerife to Newcastle tonight on the flight that diverted into Cork Airport. Apologies to any queries that were delayed during this tragic event tonight.
