RTÉ has appointed a new London correspondent. Co. Offaly native Fiona Mitchell, who has been working with the broadcaster for almost 15 years, takes up the new role in the New Year.
The news comes two years
after the station closed its London offices.
“I am thrilled to take on the role of London correspondent at such a hugely interesting time in British life and politics,” Ms Mitchell said. “I relish the opportunity to bring that story to the RTÉ audience and re-establish the RTÉ presence in the UK.”
A student of the National University of Ireland, Galway, Ms Mitchell joined RTÉ in 2000 where she was first assigned to flagship news and current affairs show Morning Ireland, which airs on RTÉ Radio One, and later the RTÉ foreign news desk.
Following six successful years as a reporter, the Tullamore
native was made News Editor in 2006 and more recently awarded the position of Deputy Foreign Editor.
Her new role means she will be responsible for reporting from the ground in London and around Britain for RTÉ’s radio, television and online platforms.
