AER Lingus Regional will introduce a new route connecting the East Midlands to Ireland early next year.
From February 5, 2015, two flights daily will run between East Midlands Airport and Dublin.
The airline expects to carry up to 70,000 customers a year on the new route.
The service, part of a franchise agreement with Stobart Air, will operate from Aer Lingus’ hub at Dublin Airport’s Terminal 2, where passengers can avail of US Customs and Border Pre-Clearance for onward travel to the US.
The new East Midlands route follows the addition of flights from Newcastle to Cork, which launched earlier this year, and also the Leeds Bradford to Dublin route, which starts later this month on October 23.
East Midlands Airport is located close to the cities of Derby, Nottingham and Leicester.
Simon Fagan, Chief Commercial Officer, Stobart Air, said: “We are pleased to link Dublin to a region which has eight major universities including Loughborough University and University of Leicester, as well as being home to the headquarters of some of the UK’s most iconic businesses including Rolls Royce, Aero and Marine, JCB and Boots.”
