‘You need to sing for a living’ – Garth Brooks lauds Aidan O’Shea and Mayo team for The River rendition

COUNTRY singer Garth Brooks has given his seal of approval to the Mayo football team’s rendition of his hit song The River.

The performance was recorded in Matt Molloy’s pub in Westport as the players drowned their sorrows after losing to Kildare in the All-Ireland Championship on June 30.

However Brooks – who, like Kildare, has had issues with playing at Croke Park – has now seen the video himself and given it the thumbs up.

In fact he was so impressed with star forward Aidan O’Shea’s vocals, he encourage him to change career.

“Aidan, dude, you need to be singing for a living!” said the singer after hearing the performance.

Brooks shared a live video of himself watching the Mayo sing-along during one of his Inside Studio G broadcasts.

The country star said the video was a fitting way to start Monday’s show on what was International Friendship Day.

Brooks, who reluctantly cancelled five shows at Croke Park in 2014, has never hidden his affinity for Ireland and added: “Ireland, you know my love for you, for sure.”

Recently he revealed he was ready to play in Ireland if the powers that be can make it happen.

The singer pulled the plug on the 2014 concerts when he was told to axe two of them, saying: “I had to pick two of the five to cancel and I said ‘screw that, I’m not going to do that to those people.’”
