Mystery couple's message in a bottle washes up in Ireland

A LONDON-based couple who set out their hopes and dreams for the New Year in a message in a bottle over three years ago has been found washed up off the coast of Ireland.

Dublin man Mark McGowan, who was walking along the promenade in Clontarf with his wife Clare, spotted the plastic bottle, believed to have washed ashore after the recent stormy weather.

Inside the container was a note, co-written by a couple named Isobel and Karl which outlined their plans and resolutions for 2011.

Clues to the whereabouts of the couple suggest the English capital, as one of Isobel’s resolutions is to ‘do/see more of London’ while another is to ‘make more London pals’.

Other resolutions of Isobel’s included to ‘remember family birthdays’ and to ‘call Dublin more’, suggesting at least one of the pair has Irish roots.
Karl’s promises included to ‘work harder, get an outstanding ‘grade’’, ‘play a regular sport’ and to ‘eat healthier, learn how to cook more’.

Meanwhile Mark, who found the bottle last Friday off the Dublin shore, is interested in finding out more about ‘Karl and Isobel’ and is keen to let them know the whereabouts of the bottle after three years adrift at sea.

A response on the Irish news website The Journal has already come from a man who claimed to be friends with the couple.

Ian O’Mara posted: “They [Karl and Isobel] recently got engaged to one another over the Christmas break and, judging by their Facebook accounts this afternoon, are completely astounded that their message in a bottle has gone viral three years later!”

The Irish Post has attempted to contact Mr O’Mara, but have yet to receive a response.
