Murder investigation ongoing after Irishman is stabbed in the heart in London

DETECTIVES have charged one man and arrested another in connection with the killing of an Irishman in London.

Damien McLaughlin, who was from Manorcunningham in Co. Donegal, died after being stabbed in the heart.

Metropolitan Police were called at 1.30pm on Saturday, April 22, to reports of a man suffering from a stab injury in Exeter Road, Enfield.

Police officers, the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended the scene where the man, formally identified as 42-year-old Mr McLaughlin, was pronounced dead at 2.15pm.

A post-mortem examination held at Haringey Mortuary on Sunday, 23 April, established cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.

A 17-year-old male from Tottenham was charged with the murder of Damien McLaughlin, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a class B drug.

He will appear in custody at Highbury Youth Court today, April 25.

An 18-year-old man, was found by officers near to the scene in Alma Road at around 1.50pm on April 22.

He had suffered a stab injury, and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service, where he was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He has been discharged from hospital on April 24 and taken to an east London police station where he remains in custody.

An investigation by the Homicide and Major Crime Command remains ongoing led by Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith of the Homicide and Major Crime Command.

DCI Smith said: "Mr McLaughlin was murdered in the street on Saturday afternoon.

"We have spoken with a number of witnesses, but I am certain that there are other people who will have seen something of note but are yet to contact police.

"I am also aware that people may have recorded footage on mobile phones. I am urging any witnesses, or anyone with material that may assist the investigation, to make contact with police."
