THE MOST comprehensive Irish history book ever written is to be unveiled this evening by President Michael D. Higgins.
More than 100 leading historians from Ireland and around the world have contributed to a new four-volume History of Ireland, which is being billed as “the most comprehensive and authoritative history of Ireland ever written”.
Produced by Cambridge University Press, the work spans 1,500 years of Irish history, from 600 to the present.

According to the book’s editors, the publication puts Irish history in the context of the broader Atlantic, European, imperial and global landscape.
The book challenges traditional chronological boundaries and addresses Irish history across a range of social, economic, religious, linguistic, military, cultural, artistic and gender perspectives.
The four-volume hardback set is expected to retail at €400.
No release date has been confirmed yet by Cambridge University Press.
