A MONKEY that escaped from Belfast Zoo on Saturday has died after being struck by a car.
The male spider monkey had been spotted on the city’s streets after its escape yesterday evening, with images of it being shared on social media.
Zoo staff were tracking the monkey when it got on to the motorway and was clipped by a car last night.

Staff brought the injured animal back to the zoo were it was treated by a vet but sadly died.
Zoo staff are said to be devastated by the loss of the animal.
An investigation will take place into how the monkey escaped from its enclosure, which is surrounded by a moat.
