Mexican student and her Italian boyfriend beaten and bloodied by gang of teenaged thugs in Dublin

A MEXICAN student and her Italian boyfriend were left 'scared and terrified' after being assaulted by a gang of teenagers in an unprovoked attack in Dublin City centre.

The couple were punched, kicked and dragged by the hair before ending up in hospital.

Adriana, who hasn't disclosed her surname for safety reasons, was with her boyfriend Matteo on Talbot Street on Wednesday night when they were approached by a group of teens.

Matteo received two black eyes and stitches to the head while Adriana was left severely bruised.

It's understood that there were around seven people in the gang that attacked them, including three girls.

"I feel so scared and terrified ... we were in hospital all night having X-rays and treatment," Adriana told the Irish Mirror.

She recalled: "One of the girls (asked) me for a cigarette, she had no reason to ask me for one as I wasn’t smoking and when I said no, she started using bad words at me.

"Then I felt a punch in my left side, I didn’t see who hit me, I don’t know if it was a girl or a guy, but it was a big hit. I turned around and I saw my boyfriend, he was being hit in the head and leg.

"He said, 'Don't touch her, don't touch her'.

"The girl said, 'I can do whatever I want because I am Irish and you can do nothing'."

The couple apparently tried to run away but were chased down and kicked to the floor.

One of the gang took Matteo's laptop out of his bag as he was being assaulted, but it was taken back by a brave female bystander who saw the incident and tried to intervene.

Adriana added: "She tried to stop the attack, she was the only one who helped us."

Gardai are now investigating the attack but no arrests have been made.
