MET ÉIREANN has warned of the potential for gale force winds and flooding as Tropical Storm Helene approaches Ireland.
It has also issued Status Yellow rainfall warnings for Galway and Mayo, to come into effect at midday on Monday.
The meteorological service says that Helene is weakening and will likely be downgraded from a Tropical Storm before it reaches the southeast of Ireland on Monday night.
However current forecasts indicate that south to southeast winds will reach gale or strong gale force over the Celtic Sea and Irish Sea.
Inland lands will be less powerful but it is possible that yellow level warning criteria may be reached in counties Cork, Waterford, Wexford, Wicklow, Dublin, Meath and Louth.
Associated weather fronts will bring rain, with west Galway and Mayo at risk of flooding on Monday.
On Monday night, the rain will spread eastwards across Ireland bringing a risk of spot flooding to many areas.
