MCDONALD'S HAVE teamed up with plant-based food company 'Beyond Meat' to answer the prayers of vegetarians and vegans with the release of the 'PLT'-- a plant-based burger that looks and tastes like the real thing.
For a while after I first turned vegetarian I yearned for the simplicity of stumbling into McDonalds and ordering a filthy double cheeseburger after a hape of pints in the pub next door.
Vegetarian and vegan options are plentiful across Ireland but they do become limited when you're searching for a bit of soakage at 2 in the morning, meaning that most of the time you have to do with just a large chip at the end of the night.
But now herbivores in parts of Canada will get to be the first to try McDonald's venture into the plant-based circle-- and if it goes well there the plan is to roll the PLT out internationally.
The plant-based burger comes dressed with cheese and mayonnaise which means vegan customers will have to ask for their order to be customised.
Meet the P.L.T., a delicious, juicy plant-based burger, that will be available for a limited time as a test at selected restaurants in Southwestern Ontario. pic.twitter.com/0oozPRXGcT

McDonald's Canada are testing their Beyond Meat collaboration in selected restaurants in Southwestern Ontario from today, and if the reaction from the Twitter announcement is anything to go by, it's set to be a big hit-- despite people who have clearly never tried plant-based fake meats acting like they would be forced to eat nothing but the PLT for the rest of their lives.
McDonald's, if you're reading this-- hurry up and bring the PLT to Ireland!
