Tragic West of Ireland granddad dies just weeks after losing wife, daughter and grandson in horror crash

A DISTRAUGHT Irish granddad from Co. Mayo has died suddenly just weeks after his wife, daughter and grandson lost their lives in a tragic car crash.

Joseph ‘Josie’ Wilson passed away on Wednesday exactly a month after the deaths of wife Mary-Ann, daughter Marcella and seven-year-old grandson Sean on September 11.

The tragic trio, who were killed when their car crashed into a truck on the N17 road outside Claremorris in Co. Mayo, were buried in a triple funeral on September 15.

Heartbroken Mr Wilson kissed photographs on each of the three coffins during the funeral at St Joseph’s Church in Erris, near to Belmullet.

His death from a suspected heart attack at his home in Binghamstown less than a month later has plunged the local community into fresh grief.

Mr Wilson’s death notice reads: “Joseph died suddenly at his residence on the 11th October 2017.

“Pre-deceased by his late wife Mary-Ann (nee McGuinness), daughter Marcella and grandson Seán who died recently in a road traffic accident.

“He will be sadly missed by his heartbroken family, sons and daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchild, daughters in law, son in law, brothers, sisters, his extended family, relatives and many friends.”

A number of local people took to social media to express their condolences after Mr Wilson’s death notice was posted online.

One wrote: “RIP a wonderful neighbour and friend. You will be missed my friend.”

While another sympathised: “Condolences to his family. They have been through so much this past few weeks. RIP.”

Mr Wilson’s funeral is scheduled to take place today at the same church which remembered his family members last month.
