A MAN who died after he was attacked by an armed gang at his Co. Cork home in the early hours of this morning has been named as Mikolaj Wilk.
Mr Wilk, 35, and his partner Elzbieta, who is also in her 30s, were attacked in their home in Ballincollig by up to four men at around 3am on Sunday.
The couple were rushed to Cork University Hospital for treatment, however Mr Wilk was pronounced dead at around 5.30am.
Gardaí have now launched a murder investigation although no motive has yet been established.
Mrs Wilk's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Another woman, aged in her 30s, and two children under the age of six, were also in the house at the time of the attack but were unharmed.
RTÉ reports that Mr Wilk, who was originally from Poland, had lived in Ballincollig for several years and ran a garden maintenance business.
After the armed men fled the scene, a car was found burned out in the Waterfall area around five miles away.
Gardaí are carrying out a technical investigation at the house and at the location where the car was discovered.
