A MAN was swept out to sea after reportedly attempting to take pictures on the coast in Co. Clare this afternoon.
He was rescued by the coast guard and airlifted to hospital but remains in a critical condition.
Clare FM reports the man was believed to have been taking photographs at the base of a cliff at Creeragh off the Dunlicky coast road near Kilkee.
It’s believed he was struck by a rogue wave and washed into the sea.
Emergency services were alerted at around 3.30pm.
Gardaí and volunteers from the Kilkee unit of the Irish Coast Guard were joined by the Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115.
The helicopter crew located the man and winched him on board before he was rushed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
