Man shot dead outside The Swan Irish pub in London

A MURDER investigation has been launched after a man was found dead outside an Irish pub in Harrow.

Police officers were called to Harrow Road in Sudbury Town just after midnight in the early hours of this morning (July 2), where a 20-year-old man was found with severe injuries.

Paramedics attempted to save him, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

As yet, little is known of what happened in the attack, which took place close to The Swan Irish pub, a popular meeting point for the Irish across north London.

But staff at the pub claim the young man was shot and today responded to concerned customers via their Facebook page.

“Thanks to everyone for their concern, everyone is ok at The Swan,” they said.

“A young man was shot up the alleyway late last night. Everyone here is fine, thank god.”

They added: “The paramedics brought him down to the wide area of the alley under the street lamp to work on him, but he didn’t make it.

“Another young life gone to soon – look after your young ones people.”

The pub is due to open this afternoon.

The victim has yet to be formally identified, but police have informed the man’s family.

Today Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Chalmers for the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command, who is leading the investigation, said: "The motive for the murder is unclear at this stage, but we are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry.

"We are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area in the early hours of this morning to contact police by calling the incident room on 020 8358 0100 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

A post-mortem examination will take place at Northwick Park Hospital tomorrow (July 3).

No arrests have been made at this stage.
